hooping in the new year

Sorry it's been a bit quiet. Things got a little crazy in the non-hooping life for a while. We'll be back at the Union Project starting next week.

Meanwhile, here's a new hoop community page created by Amanda Henry:
http://www.hoopcity.ca/group/hoopinginpittsburgh

And take a look at this! Our own Stef "hooping while healing"! With 2600 views and counting, we've clearly got the makings of a community here. Can't wait to have you back, Stef.

Back in the Great Hall, documentary, update

After two weeks of itinerant hooping, we're back in the glorious Great Hall at the Union Project tonight. The Union Project used to be a church, and the Great Hall used to be the sanctuary, and I can't tell you how much fun it is to hoop in church. The stained glass windows are gorgeous, the ceiling is high, the acoustics are amazing (you KNOW when you've dropped a hoop, and so does the very patient stained glass class downstairs), and there is enough space for LOTS of hoopers to spread out and dance.

Also tonight, some filmmakers working on a documentary about the Union Project will be shooting some footage of our class. You don't have to be in the film if you don't want to, but if you wanna be in pictures, this is your chance.

So join us!

Hoop Union Tuesday
HULA HOOP CLASS
6:30 to 7:30 pm
Union Project
corner of Negley and Stanton
$5 suggested class fee
Tonight's new skill: The Slinky

Each week we teach beginners how to hoop, and introduce one new skill for returning hoopers. You can start any time. If you have a hoop, bring it, if you don't, we have hoops of all sizes for you to use during class.

Last week we had an unexpectedly good time hooping on the Union Project's front lawn. It's amazing how fast hooping warms you up!

Hoop Union Tuesdays are brought to you by the Union Project, Spinster Hoops (we miss you, Stef!), and Steel City Hoop Union.

Registration now open for hooping workshop at PCA!

Ok, so it's a little early, but since classes at Pittsburgh Center for the Arts fill up fast, we want you to be the first to know about "In the Circle: A Hula Hooping Workshop for Families." Stef and Erika will be leading this two day workshop on Sunday, May 16 and Sunday May 23, 2010 at Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. The cost is $45 per project (i.e., hoop), and includes all materials.

Get in the loop with this introduction to the active art of hooping. Learn the basics of hooping, see how hoops are made, and decorate your own hoop to keep. In the company of your family and hoop-group friends, perfect your skills as you whirl and twirl to music and hooping games!

Link to the PCA website to register.

Hoop Union Tuesdays Continue

Whether you're already a dedicated hooper, or you've been meaning to get
AROUND to it, tonight's the night!

Hoop Union Tuesdays CONTINUE
EVERY TUESDAY
6:30 - 7:30 pm
UNION PROJECT
Corner of Stanton and Negley
EVERYONE WELCOME, ALWAYS

Tonight, if you're a beginner, we'll teach you how to keep the hoop up. If
you're ready for the next thing, we'll work on the "Wild West", aka hooping
over your head.

November marks the beginning of our new series which will be a bit more like
a class with a new skill taught each week. You can start at any time, and
you don't have to come to every class. The requested class fee is $5 per
class, or $20 for 6 weeks, but please just come and pay what you can. Many
thanks to the Union Project for helping us keep hooping accessible to all.

Hoop Union Tuesdays are brought to you by the Union
Project,Spinster Hoops, and the Steel
City Hoop Union .

Here's a profile of Stef Moser that came out today.

Hoop Union Tuesdays

Tuesday is Hoop Day at the Union Project.

Here's the skinny:

Hoop Union Tuesday
HULA HOOP JAM
Tuesday, October 27

6:30 to 7:30 pm

Union Project

corner of Stanton and Negley

Everybody is invited -- all ages and sizes

We've got hoops to share, or you can bring your own.

Please bring $2 to help us pay for the space

This one is extra special -- partly because it's the last hoop jam in our first series, and partly because there may be a reporter and a camera there from WQED's OnQ news magazine. We just thought you should know. Please come if you want to be on TV or if you don't.

Starting next week, we're going to offer a slightly different format -- a bit more like a class, with a new skill taught each week -- and we'll ask for a bit more money, $5 per class. It will still be a drop-in class -- no need to register and it's ok if you don't make it every week. We will also be scheduling a monthly open hoop jam on a different day of the week, so we'll be asking what days and times work best. Several people who want to hoop can't make it on Tuesdays. Please watch your email for a little survey to help us find the best times.

This has been SO MUCH FUN. Thank you, everyone who has been coming to hoop with us. Stef and I have loved meeting all of you, and we are excited to continue to help build a hooping community in Pittsburgh.

Hoop Union Tuesdays are brought to you by the Union Project, Spinster Hoops, and the Steel City Hoop Union.

Please come!
