Hello lovely people,
We're hooping tonight and every Tuesday through February, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm at the Union Project, at the corner of Stanton and Negley. I can't wait to see you all. Please bring $5 to help pay for space and hoops.
Our Media Debut: This Thursday, January 14, tune in to WQED's OnQ! TV Magazine at 7:30 pm to see a segment on our very own Hoop Union Tuesdays! WQED's Pierina Morelli came to a jam last fall and talked with several hoopers for the segment "Hoola Jam." If anybody has the technology, can you please record it for me? I don't have a TV.
Big thanks to Gwen from Zumba for hooping-in for me last Tuesday -- I got a a galloping crud and could not be there, but Gwen, Ellen, Beth, and Amanda kept things going in my absence.

New Year's Revolutions
Hello lovely people,
It's a new year. We've had a little hooping hiatus, but it's time to get spinning again. Love your body, meet new friends, get your circulation circulating -- heck, maybe even sweat a little.
Starting tomorrow, January 5, the Steel City Hoop Union hosts weekly hoop jams every Tuesday from 6:30 to 7:30 at the Union Project. All levels, ages, genders, and sizes are heartily welcome. Each jam includes time to move and learn at your own pace, with both individual and group instruction available. You can bring your own hoop or borrow one of ours. Your $5 fee helps us pay for space and hoops; please pay what you can.
Please join us tomorrow and every Tuesday for Hoop Union Tuesdays, brought to you by the Steel City Hoop Union, Spinster Hoops, and the generous support of the Union Project.

hooping in the new year
Sorry it's been a bit quiet. Things got a little crazy in the non-hooping life for a while. We'll be back at the Union Project starting next week.
Meanwhile, here's a new hoop community page created by Amanda Henry:
http://www.hoopcity.ca/group/hoopinginpittsburgh
And take a look at this! Our own Stef "hooping while healing"! With 2600 views and counting, we've clearly got the makings of a community here. Can't wait to have you back, Stef.

Back in the Great Hall, documentary, update
After two weeks of itinerant hooping, we're back in the glorious Great Hall at the Union Project tonight. The Union Project used to be a church, and the Great Hall used to be the sanctuary, and I can't tell you how much fun it is to hoop in church. The stained glass windows are gorgeous, the ceiling is high, the acoustics are amazing (you KNOW when you've dropped a hoop, and so does the very patient stained glass class downstairs), and there is enough space for LOTS of hoopers to spread out and dance.
Also tonight, some filmmakers working on a documentary about the Union Project will be shooting some footage of our class. You don't have to be in the film if you don't want to, but if you wanna be in pictures, this is your chance.
So join us!

HULA HOOP CLASS
6:30 to 7:30 pm

corner of Negley and Stanton
$5 suggested class fee
Tonight's new skill: The Slinky
Each week we teach beginners how to hoop, and introduce one new skill for returning hoopers. You can start any time. If you have a hoop, bring it, if you don't, we have hoops of all sizes for you to use during class.
Last week we had an unexpectedly good time hooping on the Union Project's front lawn. It's amazing how fast hooping warms you up!

Registration now open for hooping workshop at PCA!
Ok, so it's a little early, but since classes at Pittsburgh Center for the Arts fill up fast, we want you to be the first to know about "In the Circle: A Hula Hooping Workshop for Families." Stef and Erika will be leading this two day workshop on Sunday, May 16 and Sunday May 23, 2010 at Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. The cost is $45 per project (i.e., hoop), and includes all materials.
Get in the loop with this introduction to the active art of hooping. Learn the basics of hooping, see how hoops are made, and decorate your own hoop to keep. In the company of your family and hoop-group friends, perfect your skills as you whirl and twirl to music and hooping games!
